Through our subsidiary, IUT Singapore Pte Ltd we operate Asia's first of its kind
food waste bio-methanisation and renewable energy plant at Tuas, Singapore.
At full capacity, the plant will recycle more than half of the nation's food waste
currently disposed at local incineration plants, by producing renewable energy
bio-gas for power generation and nutrient rich bio-compost that will recycle
carbon back into the soil. As this plant produces electricity from a renewable
energy source, it is therefore displacing conventional fossil fuel based power
generation and assisting Singapore to achieve sustainable development.
This patented biotechnology approach to addressing the challenges of
managing urban organic waste offers tremendous potential in Singapore and
the Asia Pacific region as the rapid urbanisation of the general population
creates (i) constraints in land available for treating and disposing increasing
volumes of waste and (ii) an increasing awareness of the need for more
environmentally sustainable land and resource development.
