ater isn’t just necessary for everyday life, it is also an essential resource for Singapore’s economy. Singapore’s continued ability to ensure water security and sustainability guarantees our national survival and economic prosperity. This was the case at independence as it is now.
PUB, Singapore’s national water agency, has long taken the lead in this, making it our mission to ensure that Singapore will never go thirsty. Beyond managing the water cycle, from supplying good water, to reclaiming used water, to the taming of stormwater, PUB is also the primary cheerleader for Singapore’s burgeoning water industry.
This year, 2018, has been designated as the year for climate action. By now, even the most sceptical will accept that man-made climate change is real and may even be accelerating. The effects of climate change, if not addressed early, with adaptation and mitigation put in place expeditiously, will surely devastate our water system. And, of course, the water industry will play a key role in sourcing for and implementing the many adaptive and mitigatory measures that will be necessary, in order that Singapore’s water system continues to remain robust and resilient.
The eighth staging of the Singapore International Water Week, the world’s premier water show, will takes place 8 to 12 July 2018 at the Marina Bay Sands Singapore. 21,000 participants from 125 countries and regions had attended SIWW 2016, which also saw more than US$13 billion of business done and the market launch of 53 new products. We are hopeful that SIWW 2018 will prove even more successful.
SIWW 2018 will, again, offer unprecedented opportunities to interact and confer with high-level officials, heads of industry and opinion makers. The many leading city mayors attending the World Cities Summit and CleanEnviro Summit Singapore, both held alongside SIWW, just means that it would be an event not to be missed. We hope that you will attend.
Even as PUB continues to advance our national water resilience, the supporting water industry in Singapore grows from strength to strength. This latest Singapore Environmental Industry Directory is an important industry resource and indispensable for those looking for advice, supplies, collaboration or new business opportunities. PUB is pleased to partner Marshall Cavendish in bringing out this publication.
