Message by Chief Executive Officer, National Environment Agency, Singapore

MS02-Pix-01I congratulate Marshall Cavendish on the publication of the latest edition of the Singapore Environmental Industry Directory. This directory serves as a useful reference for governments and companies looking for business opportunities in Singapore’s environmental sector. NEA is pleased to continue our support for this publication.

Globally, there is an increasing recognition that climate change will be the defining challenge in the decades ahead. As a small island city, Singapore is especially vulnerable to rising sea levels and extreme weather patterns. Therefore, we are determined in our efforts to combat climate change.

The Government recently launched the Singapore Green Plan 2030 to spark a national movement to secure a sustainable future for Singapore. It charts Singapore’s sustainability targets over the next 10 years, and reaffirms our commitments under the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Paris Agreement. The Green Plan has five key pillars: City in Nature, Sustainable Living, Energy Reset, Green Economy and Resilient Future. Under the Sustainable Living pillar, we aim to be a zero waste nation powered by a circular economy, and target to reduce the amount of waste sent to our landfill by 30% by 2030. To achieve the targets, we will build upon existing efforts, and continue to innovate and pilot solutions for sustainable development.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) will continue our efforts in supporting technology innovation and collaboration to develop solutions. We have been working in close partnership with industry partners, trade associations and business communities to transform our environmental services industry into one that is technologically-enabled and productive, as well as with a higher skilled workforce under the Environmental Services Industry Transformation Map (ES ITM). One of the many initiatives from the ES ITM is the biennial CleanEnviro Summit Singapore (CESG).

The fifth edition of CESG will be held from 17 to 21 April 2022 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. CESG is the global platform for government leaders, policymakers, solution providers, and industry leaders to connect, examine, and discover practical solutions to address environmental challenges in cities. You can look forward to specially curated high-level plenaries, business forums and an innovation showcase of leading clean environment technology in the areas of waste management, cleaning, sustainable energy, pest management and pollution control. We warmly welcome our industry partners to join us in co-creating these innovative solutions for the environment.
